After a minor collision at an intersection or in a car park, many drivers panic, frantically searching the glove box for that long-forgotten paper accident report form and a pen that has long since run dry. Fortunately, the official LTAB OCTA mobile app has been available in Latvia for several years, allowing you to complete your accident report digitally in just a few minutes.

A digital accident report is legally equivalent to a paper form and is uploaded to the insurer's database immediately after both parties have signed it.

When Can You Use a Digital Accident Report?

You may use the digital accident report and avoid calling the State Police only if all of the following conditions are met simultaneously:

  • Only two vehicles are involved in the accident.
  • No one has been injured (there are no bodily injuries).
  • No third-party property has been damaged (traffic signs, fences, lamp posts, building walls).
  • Both drivers agree on the circumstances of the accident and who is at fault.
  • Both vehicles are registered and have a valid OCTA policy.
Do not touch the vehicles before taking photos! Before moving the cars to the side of the road, be sure to take detailed photos and videos from 4 different angles: a wide shot showing traffic signs, close-ups of both registration plates, the positioning of the wheels, and close-ups of the damage. Without clear photographs, the insurer may refuse your claim!

Step-by-Step Guide for the App:

  1. Download and open the "LTAB OCTA" app (available on the App Store and Google Play).
  2. Enter the registration numbers for both cars and the details of both drivers.
  3. Add a sketch of the accident by selecting from the provided maneuver templates or drawing the situation on the screen with your finger.
  4. Attach the photos of the scene you have just taken.
  5. Both drivers must confirm the report by signing electronically via Smart-ID or an e-signature.

If a vehicle is unable to continue driving after the accident (due to leaking fluids, suspension damage, or bumpers rubbing against the tires), remember that your OCTA policy covers towing costs for the non-at-fault party. Check out our towing services and pricing, and be sure to request an official invoice and receipt to claim reimbursement from your insurance provider.
